t h e w a y t h a t t h e w o r l d j u s t t a k e s The trotting of hooves could be heard if you listened very closely. Now and then, a flash of rich chestnut could be seen through the undergrowth. If you stayed for long enough, you would get the feeling of being watched as her gaze settled on you. Tarnara was out exploring, and she didn't particularly care where she was going. This had been her outlook on life for quite a long time now. She had once, as a foal, played on this island - it had been her childhood home. She had recovered some good memories just by being back on this sacred island. She couldn't find the exact place where she had once lived, though she had looked hard; but it didn't matter. She had never been truly happy here, not after... Not after things had changed. Then, Tarnie had found a way off of the island, from a path that had risen out of the sea. She had thought it was fate, back then, that this was her way out of everything. How wrong she was. She went in search of her father, even though she knew that he was a corrupt being, swollen on his own pride and greed. She hadn't found him. She had found others like him though. The Envious. They had stripped her of her dignity, they had put her down, they had gloated her, they had mocked everything she did, because she was an outsider. And yet, she still found herself thankful to them. For they had reassured her that she was not alone. All the bitterness she had felt in her life, the feeling that she was better than everyone, her swollen ego - it was just in her blood. Her short visit to those now known as Envious had reassured her that she wasn't completely isolated in her harsh feelings. That visit had allowed her to like herself again - for the good things that her mothers blood had given her. And now, she was back on this island. 'Where she belonged', the Envious had said. She snorted lightly in the memory. She didn't belong anywhere. Not yet. Not here, at least. Tarnie looked up as that thought crossed her mind. Where was 'here', exactly? Oh great. Tarnie muttered to herself as she slowed to a halt, her eyes scanning the unfamiliar surroundings. She had been trotting down a path that she knew well - she remembered it from some time in her youth, and recently she had explored this part of the island quite well. At first she had decided that she would find a herd to get claimed into, but then her urge to explore had taken over and she had found herself here. After a few days, the paths had been familiar, if still a little confusing. And now, absorbed in her thoughts, she had gotten herself lost. Well done Tarnie. You've got yourself lost. Her voice seemed to resound about her, shattering the silence that had settled. It was not uncommon for Tarnie to talk to herself. She sometimes had arguments with herself. She found it as a comfort, and often muttered things to herself. Tarnie thought of it as a little quirk she had, and didn't mind that others found it... strange. She wasn't saying something wrong. She only voiced what she thought, actually. And that thought had been right - she was completely lost. Tarnie scraped the ground absent mindedly with one hoof. She had two choices now, and she could remember countless situations when she had been faced with these two choices. The first option was to turn back the way she had come and look for somewhere familiar. The second, was to go on forward and see what she could find. A smile flickered across her features. Which option had she taken every time in her life? Tarnara smiled to herself, and trotted on. -x-x-x-x- Woah. Tarnie breathed to herself, her voice barely a whisper. Infront of her, like a huge mouth gaping up from the bowels of the earth, the opening to a cavern reared up infront of her. She had been happily trotting along a new, unfamiliar path, when suddenly the ground under her hooves had no longer been grass - it was stone. Before her, the path crumbled away to the rocky terrain. She sighted another path inside the cavern, sloping away, out of sight. Tarnie sighed. Now this was just too tempting to resist. Though... it did look pretty dangerous. The chestnut mare glanced behind her, even though she knew there was nothing and no one there. She was alone. Just her and the cavernous path. She took a cautious step forward. Although she couldn't feel it, she could imagine the seeping cold that might be found inside the cave. The dark, black cold, rushing up to meet her, to envelop her, the unforgiving earth to swallow her up, never to be seen again... Stop it. Tarnie's voice came as a huge comfort. She would not scare herself with her own thoughts. She would spend some time exploring the cavern, and that was it. She took a shaky step forward, then another. She picked her way over the rocks, then suddenly the blackness was infront of her. The path grew quite steep in its descent from this point. Her imagination had been right - it was cold down there. She could feel it, even from out of the cave. Her skin tingled. And then suddenly, the answer was clear. She almost laughed with the simplicity of her situation. All she had to do was focus, think of the flames, the flickering heat, oh this was easy, a little more... there! A flame leapt into existence infront of her. She smiled as it danced in the air. She could create fire, could she not? The cold and the dark was no problem! With a new found confidence, Tarnie looked down into the depths of the cavern, the shadows now falling back to her fire, and took the first step. a s e c o n d t o s e t t h i n g s s t r a i g h t

There was something drawing near. He heard the sharp sounds of flints scraping against the hard rock. These sounds were oh so familiar, though only having stolen away to this hidden labyrinth a few days before. This place was the darkest harem he had ever seen, yet he loved its cold unwelcome feel.
But this newcomer, this unwanted equine, was doing something to brighten it up. This was unacceptable of course. Hazard stepped out of his shadowy hideaway and stood in front of the cackling flame. A flame it was, dancing and singing its chortles through the rocky embrace. The ess was showing off in front of him? How worthless a creature. In his time spent he discovered his power as well, creating deep gashes in the earth.
What a wonderful knack it was. He could make this ruthless wench fall to the depths of the earth if he wanted to. But that would be no fun, there needed to be torment involved. At that moment it came to him; he could torment her with his gift. A dark chortle flew from his harsh lips and echoed of the uneven walls.
With a nod of his dial, a stretch of rock behind her crack and crumbled and fell to their deaths. She could perhaps jump it if she wanted to, but he supposed she wouldn't. She had come down here in the first place hadn't she? None would want to come down here unless they were seeking refuge or wanting an adventure. An adventurous fae. The words sprang like growls to her auds.
He danced around the flame to come closer to the temptress. An ugly one at that. Why don't you go back to your little playground before my urge to torment you goes any farther? Bitter mockery was a specialty at this point. He loathed most mistresses, unless they were to be his. That was his only exception. His herd was to be the best, with the darkest mares imaginable. The perfect combination.
Her circled her further, trying to sense any weakness. He waited for her to strike out at him, his muscled were tensed and ready for it. In fact, he wanted her to try it on him, so he could show her. Scar her forever, exactly like the last fae that rotted on the beach. Then he could put her down some more, ugly wretched creature.
OOC;; Ok, getting in the swing with him xD Left it pretty open ended for ya xD

w e l l y o u s a i d y o u w a n t e d w a r Tarnie let her gaze fall over the walls of the cavern. The light from her fire cast flickering shadows to leap out around her, and as she moved forward it was as if the complete darkness was falling away from infront of her, scared of the heat that she brought with her. It was a good feeling. She looked back, and saw with surprise that the entrance already seemed a long way away. Despite the heat, a cold seeped over her. The light of day seemed a long way away now, and she got the strangest feeling in the pit of her stomach - rather like she was being swallowed. By the earth. The mare shivered, and pushed the thought away, then continued onwards. Where she was going, she didn't really know; or care, for that matter. Suddenly, a figure appeared infront of her. She saw the glint of his eyes first - reflected in the light of her little fire. And, she heard his laughter. As to why he was chuckling Tarnie had no idea. She stopped abruptly, suddenly feeling much colder than before. She hadn't considered that there might be others in this weird cavern. She had a moment to see him nod, then the earth behind her simply crumbled away. Tarnie stepped forward out of instinct, wanting to get away from the terrible drop that had opened up behind her. Her eyes glinted down to see how far it went. All she could see was the remains of the rocks that had once been the floor. And... darkness. She measured the distance between here and the rest of the path, and figured that she could probably jump it. Probably. She didn't want to take that risk... Yes she did. Tarnie narrowed her eyes, and felt the familiar sensation of something inside her changing. She had experienced this many times in her life - it was as if a constant battle was raging inside her, and sometimes, one of them started to win. And just at that second, it was like her rebellious side had one. Why should she be the one to run and hide? She had done nothing wrong - this cavern was not his! She has as much right as him to be in this cursed place, even if he was the one who could make the ground move. She had her fire. As Tarnie thought this and whipped her head round to the front to face him, she realized that he had been speaking. She hadn't bothered to listen to what he had first said - the fact that the earth had disappeared had kinda distracted her. But now, she pricked her ears slightly to catch his words. ...Ugly one at that. Why don't you go back to your little playground before my urge to torment goes any farther? Anger flashed inside Tarnie. As it did, the fire that had been floating beside her flared up, filling the cavern with its bright glow for a second. The heat was strong across Tarnie's face, and she wasn't ready for it, since the fire had seemed to flare of its own accord. But she didn't wince or show any sign that she was put off by this sudden heat - she was in control of that element. And though it wasn't complete control - the fires she created often flashed or dimmed when she felt different emotions - it was enough to ensure that she didn't care how close the flame got. She knew it would never hurt her. And why would I want to do that, brute? The words came out before she could think them over; not that she wanted to. Tarnie felt overcome with anger right at that moment, so she didn't care of what she said to him. She didn't even know who he was - though perhaps that wasn't a reason against him, Tarnie felt more comfortable getting annoyed with strangers anyway. Now move aside and stop acting like you own this cursed cavern. She snarled at him, her eyes reflecting the anger that she felt inside. But almost as soon as she had spoken, she felt something change inside her again. Oh dear. It looked like the peaceful, calm side of Tarnie was starting to win. What did I just say. Tarnie thought hurriedly to herself. She suddenly started to panic, though didn't let it show on her face. She wouldn't let him know of the strange conflicting feelings that she had always felt inside, but perhaps she wouldn't have to. Now that she had just made out that she was angry and up for a fight he was sure to notice if she suddenly started to back down. So what should she do? Continue to be angry, or let the calm overwhelm her? She resisted casting a glance over her shoulder. Maybe she should just go. Oh well done Tarnie. She thought to herself, refraining from muttering. She didn't want to give him any other reason to annoy her. If she started talking to herself, that was sure to give him something else to pick on. Look what you've gotten yourself into. b u t n o b o d y w a n t s t o f a i l t h e f u t u r e

[You clear your throat and wince as the sound echos of the rocky walls. Your eyes travel to the temptress once again. You sneer. Is she that precious my little Hazard? Has the sour truth befallen to your lips? That she, a mare, more gorgeous than you?! Inconceivable. How could one be better than you? My darling Hazard, it is our blood that makes us this way. It bubbles in your veins, bouncing off our tattered heart with delight. How can this be? Our blood makes us want to kill her, yet we want her. Her, a mare, a useless abominable creature. Yet, they give us our colts which we adore. Perhaps, we need a colt, my love?
Ah, but not now. My little Hazard, not now. We need to focus on the wench. The beautiful wench, the wench that stood stock still before his large figure. The wench that he envied, with all his being. My darling, she is fighting a battle. Do you see the light in her eyes change, or are you blinded by the fire? Your body sways with the fire, it toys with you. And you let it, as always. You are overcome with the change in atmosphere, the demoness, your insides squealing in rage. Why my little Hazard? Oh, but she answers, my love. Intruder. Stranger. Beautiful alone, straying stranger. You grin. A wicked, naughty tempting grin. She is sinister just like us. Your voice is raspy, cold, heartless. You are a monotone creature who loves only one thing; hate. You love to hate. You love your cold dead voice echoing throughout the tunnel. So you want to be tormented, tortured, hated. Demolished. You want me to enjoy your lovely words? You fighting back? Believe me my dear, your feisty spirit will not save you.
My darling, my love, my little Hazard. What has the world done to you? What have you become? How do those words fall from your leathery lips? Ah, but you enjoy it, more than you know. You are getting back at the world for what it has done to you. But what has it done? Oh the devil, she interrupts us again. How dare she. How dare she think she owns this cursed place more then you, what makes her so? We will find out my darling, my sweet. But your voice, it flows more sinister, more deadly. Yet there is no hearty rasp to sooth you. A sinister move my darling. I fear, that I will make you regret this decision.
You stand your ground, but why? For her? For you? For us? Why my sweet? You move your head to the ground, studying the cracks, the minuscule pieces of life. You lift your talons, smashing the life beneath you. You awake from the trance and notice the temptress, once again. you move forward slowly, oh so slowly. What are you doing my love? You ignore us, you keep moving, closing the distance. You dance around the flame, a voracious grin on your face.
